Healthy Church

Start with Why?

“Great companies inspire others by putting the Why (the purpose) before the How (the process), or the What (the product).”

"We make great computers, beautifully designed, and user friendly.”

How Apple really communicates from the Why:
WHY? Everything we do, we believe in challenging the status quo, we believe in thinking differently.

HOW? The way we challenge the status quo is by making our products beautifully designed, simple to use, and user friendly.

WHAT? We just happen to make computers, iPad, iPhone.

OUR WHY?
To be a healthy, life-giving church that sees people thrive in Christ.

PSALM 92:12-15
The righteous thrive like a palm tree and grow like a cedar tree in Lebanon. Planted in the house of the Lord, they thrive in the courts of our God. They will still bear fruit in old age, healthy and green, to declare, “The Lord is just; he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him.”

ROOTS

COLOSSIANS 2:6-7
So then, just as you have received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to walk in him, being rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, and overflowing with gratitude.

GROWTH

COLOSSIANS 1:5-6
You have already heard about this hope in the word of truth, the gospel that has come to you. It is bearing fruit and growing all over the world, just as it has among you since the day you heard it and came to truly appreciate God’s grace.

- A healthy church grows because healthy things grow

FRUIT

MATTHEW 7:17
So, every healthy tree bears good fruit

PRUNING

JOHN 15:2
Every branch in me that does not produce fruit he removes, and he prunes every branch that produces fruit so that it will produce more fruit.
- Healthy things grow, but growing things change

SEASONS

ECCLESIASTES 3:1-2
For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven... A time to plant and a time to harvest.

MATTHEW 9:37
The harvest is great, but the workers are few.

WHAT CAN I DO?

1. STAY PLANTED

PSALM 92:12-15
The righteous thrive like a palm tree and grow like a cedar tree in Lebanon. Planted in the house of the Lord, they thrive in the courts of our God.
- Bloom where you are planted.

2. SOW

2 CORINTHIANS 9:5-8,10-12
Therefore I considered it necessary to urge the brothers to go on ahead to you and arrange in advance the generous gift you promised, so that it will be ready as a gift and not as an extortion. The point is this: The person who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and the person who sows generously will also reap generously. Each person should do as he has decided in his heart—not reluctantly or out of compulsion, since God loves a cheerful giver.
